Errors & Omissions Insurance
Optional. Notary Service and Bonding Agency, Inc. strongly recommends that Massachusetts notaries insure themselves against claims of negligence.
Notary Stamp/Notary Seal
Required. A embosser or rubber inked stamp.
Record Journal
Required. A notary public is required to keep only one active, permanently bound notary record book with sequentially numbered pages of all notarial acts performed.
State Filing Fee
A $60 filing fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Permitted. Non-resident applicants must be employed or conduct business on a regular basis within the State of Massachusetts.
Notary Commission Renewal
Five weeks before the commission expires, the notary will receive a renewal notice from the Division of Public Records in the Office of the Secretary of Commonwealth. The application must be completed and returned to the Notary Public Office, which will submit the application to the Governor for reappointment with the advice and consent of the Council. Once reappointed, the notary must take the oath of office within 90 days in order for the commission to be valid.

Follow the instructions provide by the Secretary of the Commonwealth to be sworn in and pay your commission filing fee.

When your notary public application is considered, you will be notified by the Secretary of the Commonwealth who will include with the notification of your appointment the directions for being sworn in. At the same time you will be provided with instructions as to the method for paying the $60.00 commission filing fee to the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
