FOUR STEPS FOR AN "ELECTRONICALLY FILED NEW OR RENEWAL" NOTARY PUBLIC

STEP 1 - ORDER YOUR LOW COST ELECTRONICALLY FILED NEW OR RENEWAL NOTARY BOND PACKAGE.
NOTE: If you are EXEMPT from the state test the following will not be required. Simply purchase your notary bond package by clicking the "ADD TO CART" link and proceed to STEP 2.
Select one of the below notary bond packages. Click the "ADD TO CART" link to purchase you notary bond package below. Once you have purchased your notary bond package you will need to fax us the following required information so that you can proceed to STEP 2.
1) You MUST fax us a copy of your notary bond package confirmation order. Once you have purchased your notary bond package you will be given a order number at the end of your order and also by email. The order number starts with NOTRY followed by five digits (Example: NOTRY-12345).
2) You MUST also fax us a copy of your certificate of completion from the state test. Please be sure to include a fax number for us to return it to you on the cover sheet. The certificate of completion will be signed by our instructor and faxed back to you the same day.

STEP 2 - ELECTRONICALLY FILE YOUR NOTARY PUBLIC APPLICATION WITH THE SECRETARY OF STATE.
Click the below link to electronically file you notary public application with the Secretary of State's Office.

Once the Secretary of State's Office approves your notary public application they will mail you a letter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Also enclosed will be your original $10,000 notary public bond.
NOTE: You will have 45 calendar days to complete this process after the appointment date on your $10,000 notary public bond or the commission becomes void. Extensions will not be given from the state.
IMPORTANT: YOU MUST MAIL US THE ORIGINAL $10,000 NOTARY PUBLIC BOND TO OUR CORPORATE OFFICE ADDRESS AT:

Once we receive your $10,000 notary public bond we will have it ACTIVATED and order your official stamp seal. We will then mail back to you your ACTIVATED $10,000 notary public bond.
Once you receive your ACTIVATED $10,000 notary public bond proceed to STEP 3.
STEP 3 - FILE YOUR ACTIVATED $10,000 NOTARY BOND WITH THE RECORDER OF DEEDS IN PERSON.
Before you can perform your notarial duties you MUST file your activated $10,000 notary public bond with the Recorder of Deeds Office in person in the county where your business is located on your notary public application. You will receive your commission certificate from the Recorder of Deeds Office upon completing this process. Keep the commission certificate for your records.
Once this is complete proceed to STEP 4.
STEP 4 - REGISTER YOUR OFFICIAL SIGNATURE WITH THE PROTHONOTARY OFFICE IN PERSON.
You now MUST register your official signature with the Prothonotary Office in person in the county where your business is located. You must sign your name exactly as it appears on your commission.
NOTE: This must be completed within 45 calendar days after the date of appointment or the commission becomes void. Extensions will not be given.
Once this process is complete you will be authorized to begin your notarial duties.

Once the above forms are completed you will need to send us the following required forms:
1) Completed notary bond package order form
2) Completed information form
3) Completed original notary public application
4) Form of payment
5) A copy of your certificate of completion from the state test. NOTE: If you are EXEMPT from the state test this form will not be required in your mailing.

Once we receive all of your completed forms we will mail the necessary forms and filing fee of $40.00 to the Residential Senator for endorsement. Once the forms are signed by the Senator he/she will mail the signed forms to the Secretary of State's Office for you.

STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA NOTARY REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
Be 18 years old or older.
Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Be of good character, integrity, and ability.
Not have been convicted of or pled guilty or nolo contendere to a felony or a lesser offense incompatible with the duties of a notary public during the five year period preceding the date of the application.
Not have had a notary public commission revoked by the Commonwealth or any state during the five year period preceding the date of the application.
PROVISIONS
Non-Residents: Non-resident applicants must be employed within the Commonwealth.
Bond: A 10,000 bond is required for new or renewing notaries.
Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional. Notary Association of Pennsylvania Co. strongly recommends that Pennsylvania notaries insure themselves against claims of negligence.
Filing Fee: A $40 state filing fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.
Term: 4 years.
Jurisdiction: Statewide.
Renewal: A notary may apply three months prior to the expiration date of the current commission.
Notary Seal: Required. A rubber stamp seal.
Education/Testing: Required.
Record Journal: Required by law.
