STATE REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
Be 18 years of age or older.
Be a resident of the state of Ohio.
Be certified by a judge of an Ohio court of common pleas, court of appeals, or the Ohio Supreme Court.
Pass a written examination.
Be a registered voter in the county in which he or she resides.
PROVISIONS
Non-Residents: A non-resident applicant must be an attorney admitted to the practice of law in this state by the Ohio supreme court and have his or her principal place of business or primary practice in this state.
Bond: None required.
Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional.
Filing Fee: State required filing fees for new applications and for renewal notary applications vary from county to county.
Term: 5 years for a notary public who is not an attorney; lifetime term for a notary public who is an attorney in good standing before the Supreme Court of Ohio and who continues to reside in the State of Ohio.
Jurisdiction: Statewide.
Education/Testing: None Required.
Notary Seal: Required. Embosser or rubber-inked stamp.
Record Book: Required.
