STATE REQUIREMENTS

ELIGIBILITY

Be 18 years of age or older.

Be a citizen of the United States.

Be a resident of the state of New York.

Not have been convicted of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude.


PROVISIONS
 
Non-Residents: Must have a office or place of business in New York State may apply to become a notary. 

Bond: None required.

Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional. 

Filing Fee: A $60 fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.

Term: 4 years. 

Jurisdiction: Statewide.

Renewal: A notary may apply for renewal three months before the current commission expires. 

Education/Testing: Required. A notary applicant must take and pass a written examination.

Notary Seal: None Required.  

Record Book: Recommended by the Secretary of State.
