Once you have received your official notary bond from us please make a copy of the actual bond for your records. Mail the completed Mississippi notary public application, notary bond and the $25.00 filing fee (made payable to: Secretary of State) to the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office address listed below:

Mississippi law requires that the insurance commissioner and the governor approve the notary bond before a commission can be issued. Once both officials approve the notary bond, the Secretary of State's Office will mail you the original Commission Certificate.

STATE OF MISSISSIPPI NOTARY REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
Be 18 years old or older.
Be a legal resident of the United States.
Be a resident of the State of Mississippi and have resided in the county of residence for at least 30 days prior to the submission of the notary public application.
Read and write the English language.
Not be convicted of a felony.
PROVISIONS
Non-Residents: Not permitted.
Bond: A 5,000 bond is required for new or renewing notaries.
Errors & Omissions Insurance: Optional. Notary Service and Bonding Agency, Inc. strongly recommends that Mississippi notaries insure themselves against claims of negligence.
Filing Fee: A $25 state filing fee is required for new and renewal notary applications.
Term: 4 years.
Jurisdiction: Statewide.
Renewal: A notary may apply 90 days before expiration of the current commission by completing a renewal notary public application.
Notary Seal: Required. A embosser or inked stamp.
Education/Testing: None required.
Record Journal: Required by law.

A notary in the state of Mississippi is appointed for a period of four years. If you want to continue to be a notary in the state of Mississippi after four years, you must renew your notary appointment.
